"Dental Enamel Scraper C. 1700"
Dental enamel scraper, also known as a minor bone surgery scraper, made of steel with a turned ivory and silver handle. The instrument is kept in its boiled cardboard case covered with stamped leather. A break in the ivory handle and the long part of the case is damaged, with a lack of leather and cardboard, over several centimeters. This type of instrument was used to clean teeth and remove tartar or damaged enamel. For very similar instruments see Bennion, Antique Dental instruments, page 123, illustration 127. The instrument measures 8.2cm in length and the case 9.3cm.
