The work shows a mother turning towards her little girl, accompanying her to the Shichi-Go-San (Seven-Five-Three) celebration, a traditional rite and festival in Japan for children aged 3, 5 and 7, celebrated on November 15 to mark their growth and well-being.
The mother holds the little girl's hand and with the other hand, holds a bag of sweets with the writing 千歳飴 (Chitose ame), known as "thousand year candy", decorated with cranes and turtles, symbols of longevity in Japan.
She engraved signature Hidemitsu 秀光 on red lacquer.
Period: Meiji end of 19th century.
