Beautiful pair of candlesticks in gilded bronze and bronze with brown patina from the "Return from Egypt" period, representing Egyptian priestesses wearing Nemesis.
Like a canephora, each one welcomes on its head the finely sculpted binet of acanthus leaves, emerging from a bouquet of foliage.
The base, in the shape of a pedestal, also presents a particularly refined decoration of varied friezes (rows of pearls, ovates, streaks).

The return of Napoleon Bonaparte from his expedition to the Orient considerably revived the taste for Egypt, already present in the 18th century.
Works such as “Journey in Lower and Upper Egypt, during the campaigns of General Bonaparte” by Dominique Vivant Denon or even “The Description of Egypt” were valuable sources of inspiration in terms of motifs.
Thus, during the short period of the Consulate, from which this pair of torches comes, the furniture, the furnishing bronzes and those of decoration took the "Egyptian" trend influenced by the Egyptian campaign (1798-1801).
This fashion continued sparsely until the end of the 1st Empire Consulate period, circa 1800-1805
