"Rare Pair Of Torches With Busts Of African Women. Empire Period."
Pair of chiseled and mercury-gilded bronze candlesticks decorated with busts of African women. The base is decorated with strips of heart and row of pearls. The hexagonal sheathed barrel with alternating burnished sides and grooves placed on three pairs of feet. The upper part is decorated with leaves and latticework guilloche, bears three busts of African women, with pearl necklaces and earrings, carrying a basin forming the binet. Empire period work in the spirit of Jean-Simon Deverberie (1764-1824) Small usual wear to the gilding and an accident under a base. (see last photo) Bobèches brought back.
