Biography:
Eugène GALIEN LALOUE 1854 / 1941
Eugène Galien Laloue is a French painter and engraver, born December 11, 1854 in Paris and died in Chérence (Val d'Oise) on April 18, 1941, famous for his paintings capturing the Parisian atmosphere but also his Barbizon landscapes. Eugène Galien-Laloue became a painter like his father, Charles Laloue, a painter better known in the world of theater than in the world of salons. He was sixteen when his father died and he had to leave school to look for work. In 1874, he was recruited by the French Railway Company to draw the route of the rails from Paris to the provincial stations: he took the opportunity to paint the surrounding landscapes and then the districts of Paris with a faithful line which respected up to the perspective of the buildings. He chooses the season in order to give a tone to the sky, the trees and the lighting then animates the places of the characters. His sunsets and sunrises are remarkable and his touch is characteristic, ingenious and soaring for this talented and fertile painter. He was listed among French Artists for a long time from 1877.
This artist is sought after not only by French collectors, but also by American and English collectors. Eugène Galien-Laloue's work is known under different pseudonyms, probably because of his contracts. The six best-known names are: "L. Dupuy", "Juliany", "E. Galiany", "Lievin", "E. Lemaitre" and "Dumoutier".
His work is closely linked to Paris and the villages of the Ile-de-France countryside. E. GALIANY (Eugène GALIEN LALOUE) worked a lot in the atmosphere of Barbizon, a village frequented by many painters. He loved painting farmyards, farmyards in Samois, Moret sur Loing, the landscapes of Normandy and Seine et Marne.
