Object description :

"Antique Royal Rudolstadt Vase: Eagle On Cornucopia, C. 19th Century"

Very rare Royal Rudolstadt porcelain centerpiece vase shaped like an eagle mounted on a cornucopia, traditionally a symbol of prosperity, abundance, and success. The eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide and beak open, capturing a sense of anxious energy. The piece is painted in monochrome with various shades and glazed inside and out on a cream base. The creamy and ivory tones emphasize the beauty of the porcelain and showcase the artist's skill. Special attention should be given to the intricately molded stand, which adds to the overall detailed craftsmanship.
In 1869, Lazarus Straus founded Lazarus Straus & Sons, an American firm specializing in the import and wholesale of ceramics and glass. In 1882, the New York and Rudolstadt Pottery Company was established as its United States-based subsidiary, with a German counterpart, Porzellanfabrik Rudolstadt Straus & Söhne AG, led by Julius Straus. Initially, all items were produced in a factory in Rudolstadt, but as the business expanded, the Rudolstadt factory coordinated and exported contract pieces produced in Bohemia and France.
The German company eventually managed subsidiaries in France and Austrian Bohemia, growing to employ around 300 workers by 1913, a third of whom were dedicated to export transactions. Although initially focused on exports, the Rudolstadt factory began producing items for the European market as well. Unfortunately, business declined in the 1920s, leading to the closure of the Rudolstadt factory in 1930.

Very good antique condition. Some loss to gilding; overpainting is visible in the wide part of the cornucopia and barely visible in the area of the eagle's head as it can only be seen under UV light. Overpainting is a sign of restoration, but in this case, the restoration was done very professionally. Please study the accompanying photographs carefully as they form an integral part of this description. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance. It is important to note that shipping costs include labor, packaging, and postage.
