A rare piece, symbol of the Renaissance, the Cassone is a wedding chest often intended to hold the bride's fabrics, linens, or trousseau. This ceremonial chest is commissioned by the groom and then decorated by an artist. The Cassone is then displayed in the bridal chamber, serving as a showpiece. It is a significant element of Italian furniture, especially Florentine, during the Renaissance. In the 15th and 16th centuries, due to the importance of marriages and the resulting alliances between families, Cassoni were highly prized, and their decoration featured numerous innovations and variations.
