Suite Of Antwerp Embroideries Late 16th Century, Scenes From Novels

Suite of 5 rectangles of red lampas, on which are sewn 5 embroideries of colored silk, gold and silver in thrown stitch, profane and amorous polychrome imagery, undoubtedly embroidered after engravings of novels of period, Tristan and Isolde, Orpheus and Eurydice, all show romantic encounters.
Period: late 16th or early 17th century,
these embroideries were to cover the front of bottom drawers of a large cabinet from Antwerp, fom black wood....
Good general condition, a little sunburned, but good, given the normal fragility of silk works which have survived 5 centuries: some colors of thread have not managed to survive. An embroidery, (red arrow) has been resurfaced below with a reused piece to hide a gap at the left edge...requires a few stitches.
