"Commode Precious Woods, Louis XV / Louis XVI Transition Style – Late 19th Century"
Beautiful chest of drawers with three drawers in rosewood and amaranth veneer, topped with Brocatelle marble. The first of these drawers in the upper part has a raised front, inlaid with rosewood and richly decorated with a large bronze frieze. The second and third drawer feature marquetry surrounded by a composition of rosewood forming squares arranged diagonally surrounded by amaranth. The crosspiece is hidden allowing continuity of the patterns between the two facades. Each drawer is fitted with two scalloped ring pull handles, original chiseled mascarons, bronze urn entrances and functional original locks. A low, moving crosspiece has a beautiful bronze composition with an urn, flame, foliage and volute. The canted uprights are highlighted by a bronze drop with a lion's face in the upper part, below a rosewood marquetry joins a decoration forming a lion's paw on the humped foot. The purple brocatelle marble is also made up of projections and follows the lines of the furniture. It has a groove around its edge. The sides of this chest of drawers are concave and worked in the same way, using identical geometric patterns. This chest of drawers is particularly interesting for its lines, its dimensions, the beauty of its marquetry and its important bronzes. ******** Period: Late 19th Century Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop.
