The Start of the Race - French School, 19th century, oil on panel framed in the style of de Dreux and Herring. A skillful and colorful depiction by the artist of the start of a horse race - the painting shows several horses almost too difficult to control as their jockeys struggle with the reins to maintain control. The painting is signed lower right. The painting is in good condition, with only minor paint losses. The frame has undergone a simple restoration and is complete, but remains in distressed condition.
