Provenance: This etching comes from the Defer-Dumesnil collection, indicated by a black ink mark "HDD" on the back. Pierre Defer (1798-1870), an expert for King Louis-Philippe, assembled an important collection during the first half of the 19th century. He authored numerous sales catalogues from 1831 and wrote the notable "General Catalogue of Public Auctions of Paintings and Prints," which unfortunately ceased in 1868 at the letter D. (Source: Lugt).
