"Snuffbox Far East 19th Century"
Pretty ivory snuffbox from the 19th century. Perhaps made in Japan for the Chinese market. Double-sided decoration made in low relief and representing two different Buddhist followers; called Arhat. Each character seated cross-legged, one holding a hand screen, the other with his arms crossed in his sleeves. Stopper decorated with an engraved frieze, closing by casing and including a small spoon. Beautiful patina of use. Unidentified mark under the base. Very good general condition.
