"Carved And Painted Cross 12th-13th Century"
Representation of the Crucifix carved on a Byzantine cross with the Virgin and St. Joseph on either side. The object is naively painted in tempera in red and green with a raised edge, decorated in gold and dotted with dark globes. The step where the feet rest has been carved laterally to allow the twisting of the dead Christ. This find, in a splendid state of preservation, can be dated between the last years of the twelfth century and the first half of the thirteenth century. Carved from fir wood
