Object description :

"Art Deco Chalice, Sterling Silver And Diamonds, Albert Schwartz, Paris, 1930-1940"
Exceptional Art Deco style chalice in solid gilded silver (vermeil) with a cross set with diamonds on the foot. These are rose-cut diamonds, probably dating from the early 19th century and coming from older jewelry as is often the case. It still has its original silver-gilt paten too. The paten is engraved with a text in Latin "omnis honor et gloria". The foot of the chalice is engraved inside with another text in Latin "Sursum corda omnium tuorum" or "Lift up the hearts of all yours". These two beautiful pieces of goldwork are the work of a Parisian craftsman named Albert Schwartz (1904-1987) who was a specialist in liturgical goldsmithing. All the component parts are in solid silver of the first title (950%) covered with thick vermeil. The knot of the chalice is decorated with a motif representing Christ's crown of thorns.
