Jean-Paul Aubé was born from the marriage of Jean-Baptiste Isidor Aubé, born in 1783, an annuitant, with Olympia Eulalie Ancelot, born in 1800[1]. He studied at the Paris School of Fine Arts in the workshops of Antoine Laurent Dantan and Francisque Duret. In 1866, he made a trip to Italy which developed in him an influence of the neo-renaissance then neo-baroque style. He exhibited at the Salon of French Artists where he won two gold medals in 1874 and 1876. He then produced monuments, busts and medals. He became a professor at the Paris School of Fine Arts. Among his students we can distinguish Gaston Lachaise, Charles Virion, and Jean Baffier. In December 1896 he was appointed director of the Bernard Palissy municipal school in Paris[2]. Jean-Paul Aubé was named knight of the Legion of Honor in 1888, then promoted to officer in May 1910.
