Genet et Michon is a company created in 1911 by Philippe Genet and Lucien Michon, engineering graduates of the Boule school. Diffusers and creators of furniture and especially lighting, they designed from 1919 also many objects strongly marked with the style of the time "Art Deco" in pressed glass, as vases of exceptional quality.
Their objects will be part of a commission for the liner Normandie. The company received in 1925 the first prize of the Exhibition of Decorative Arts. In 1929, they realized the chandeliers of the hall and the famous luminous glass roof of the grand staircase of the Splendid hotel in Dax, one of the emblems of Art Deco architecture.
Genet & Michon (France) is the reference brand of Art Deco lighting. These 2 engineers graduated from the Ecole supérieure des arts appliqués aux industries de l'ameublement) created in 1922, luminaires with a highly structured Art Deco design executed in a colorless, thick, press-molded glass.
They settled rue du Parc Royal in Paris and made the luminous wall of the grand staircase of the hotel Splendid in Dax (1928), luminous equipment for cruise liners (Normandy).
The manufacturing technique used, produced a luminous intensity. Genet & Michon made vases, decorative objects in pressed glass but also ramps and luminous hanging spheres. Their activity ceased in the early 1960s.
Signatures: Many pieces are not signed at all, others could be signed with «Genet.Michon», «GENET & MICHON», «GM» or «GM.FRANCE».
