Beautiful and important work by Hippolyte Léty. Born in Vienne (Isère) and trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon with Tony Zac and Alexandre François Bonnardel, then in Paris with Léon Bonnat, Ferdinand Humbert and Luc-Olivier Merson (it is the last three who most influenced him), for part of his career he was a professor at the School of Art in Tourcoing. But his heart always remained in Vienne, and even though the name of the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is a new one, from his capital Vienne, Léty painted the great region all around with unparalleled love, energy and virtuosity.
