Chaty - Vallauris Large Sun Mirror 1950

Large sun mirror from the 1950s-60s stamped on the back "CHATY VALLAURIS AM" (Alpes Maritimes) In excellent original condition, beautiful size with a diameter of 71 cm animated by a forged and gilded metal structure featuring a radiant pattern decoration around a twisted frame decorated with a curved mirror. Design by Gilbert Poillerat (1902-1988) French art decorator and ironworker. Trained at the Boulle school around 1920, he quickly became passionate about ironwork. In a few years, he became one of the most important French ironworkers. Admiring the art of the 17th and 18th centuries and the Baroque style, he was inspired by them while creating very innovative decorative objects. In the 1940s, he imagined a golden metal mirror that looked like a sun: the Chaty Vallauris mirror was born and would become a design icon
