In 1927, René Lalique created the famous Bacchantes vase, a conical piece decorated with mythological figures in high relief, illustrating the rituals dedicated to Bacchus. Nude maenads emerge from an irregular base, their slender and varied poses punctuating the composition in a captivating and sensual manner. Lalique favored opalescent surfaces to play with transparency and light, in harmony with the sculptural relief. The Bacchantes vase, recognizable by its conical shape and flat base, features a frieze of dancing and lascivious maenads, offering an artistic expression of nature. This emblematic creation of Lalique, existing since 1927, was produced first in glass then in crystal from 1947. In 2010, for the 150th anniversary of René Lalique, the vase was reimagined under the name of Révélation Bacchantes, integrated in a crystal cube. Lalique's fascination with the female form is embodied in the Bacchae, depicting the priestesses of Bacchus in a disturbingly sensual bas-relief, honoring the god of wine and the vine with their captivating dance. Signed and engraved on the bottom “R. LALIQUE France”.
