"Magic Box Retractable Desk, Publisher Mummenthaler & Meier "
This is a wonderful example of functional and practical design. This is the famous trunk desk designed by the Swiss publisher Mummenthaler & Meier in 1928. Initially it was a piece of office furniture designed for Swiss army officers on the move. In fact, they could easily transport their documents in this trunk which very easily transformed into an ergonomic workstation whenever necessary. This practical piece of furniture was marketed to the general public around 1950. It then received the well-deserved nickname of Magic Box. It was also manufactured identically under license by the Parisian publisher Genestar after 1955. The copy presented for sale is in a remarkable state of conservation, both aesthetic and functional. The interior of the piece of furniture appears to have never been used as it is in impeccable condition, practically new. It has all its original accessories: sliding lamp, drawer with its period key, all the teak shelves which can be adjusted as desired, folding work surface, etc.... The exterior is in cherry wood, rather rare on this model. It was simply refinished with "Osmo" satin hard oil, which is extremely resistant to use. The keys to secure the office once closed are present. Here is the opportunity to acquire a design icon, both elegant and devilishly practical due to its exceptional modularity, all in very close to new condition despite its almost 75 years old!
