He became master in 1752 and settled in rue de Cléry, probably in his father's workshop, where he remained for around 30 years. His own stamp, found in the National Furniture, proves that he was one of the Crown's suppliers. He produced numerous series of Louis XV, Transition and Louis XVI style chairs, with an elegant and simple design. Works by Gourdin can be found, among others, in the Louvre in Paris.
