Box
Cedar burl and tortoiseshell

France, circa 1840
Box with a double-sided profile in pressed wood in light relief. On the obverse, a captioned portrait of Louis-Philippe, King of the French, in military dress, and on the reverse, a Legion of Honour.
A fine example of Napoleonic fervour in the 19th century, particularly around 1840, when the Emperor's ashes were officially repatriated from St Helena to Les Invalides.
