ARCHEOLOGY-ASIAN ARTS-KHMER ART CAMBODIA ANGKOR WAT 12TH/13TH CENTURY BAYON PERIOD BRONZE WITH GREEN/BLUE PATINA ANTIQUE RITUAL CONCH AND ITS SUPPORT Khmer ritual conch and its support, in solid bronze with nuanced blue/green patina. This conch is the fruit of a prodigious Asian civilization, the Khmer civilization. The main body is decorated with a three-headed figure of Hevajra and the tripod support rests on three figures of Nāgas (serpents). Hevajra symbolizes in Buddhism, enlightened wisdom, compassion as well as transformation; it comes from the esoteric tradition of Tantra. The Nagās, for their part, are mythical beings close to the serpent and are attached to water as well as to the treasures of nature. This conch was used during religious ceremonies or rites of passage, to collect lustral waters (consecrated waters). Good condition, used condition (traces, missing items; see descriptive photos).
