"René Hamiot (1912-1975) "homage To Lachièze-rey""
René Hamiot (1912-1975) "Homage to Lachièze-Rey" - oil on canvas - format 73 x 92 cm - signed lower left. Born in 1912, René Hamiot, a hairdresser by trade, first trained in Paris. In 1932 he left for Tahiti. Guy Bataille, art critic for “La Voix du Nord” says of him: “Choosing to live in the middle of nature among dances is an indication. This being, gifted from birth, already willingly swapped the comb for charcoal.” In 1937, he worked in Paris for Fernand Aubry (famous hair stylist), married Madeleine Peinet and met the Romanian sculptor Stephan Sfetco. From 1941 to 1947, he followed Aristide Maillol's course, then in 48, he met, in Sète, the painter François Desnoyer, a friend of Fusaro. It was undoubtedly at this time that Hamiot became involved with “those of the Lyon school”: Truphémus, Cottavoz, Fusaro, Lachièze-Rey and many others according to the words of Denise Mermillon (Hamiot exhibition catalog Galeries St- Georges and Désiré April-May 1987 in Lyon). René Hamiot jointly and singularly exercises his activity as a painter and that of a hairdresser. In 1957, the couple opened the Perrière gallery in the same city, exhibiting their many artist friends. René Hamiot's painting is in line with Vuillard and Bonnard. Pastel colors in a tone of simplicity, spontaneity, tinged with a certain naivety. He draws his inspiration from everyday life. His scenes of bistros, restaurants, terraces, family meals, friendships, landscapes, flowers, women, shared moments, and even a fairground parade, suggest a simple personality.
