"Pair Of Italian Landscapes Animated With Characters"
Very pretty pair of Italian gouaches, luminous, painted in the style of the 18th century.One depicts characters moving in an architectural landscape ,the other one a port scene animated with characters,
The first is signed with a monogram "HR" and dated 1786 at the bottom right, on the rock serving as a seat for a young woman in a red skirt.
The second is signed with a monogram "JV" and dated 1783 at the bottom right.
However, we do not think that these gouaches are by the hand of Joseph Vernet and Hubert Robert, but that they are nicely painted "in the manner of". Dimensions of the gouaches at sight: 23.5cm x 18.5cm
