Louis Malteste (1862-1928)
Born under the name Jules Malteste in Chartres and died in Paris, he began his career with court sketches made for the newspaper "l'Illustration". A versatile artist with multiple talents, he exhibited as a painter at the Salon des artistes français in 1889. In 1897 he participated in the Salon des cent and from that date on at the salon of the Société nationale des beaux-arts. He collaborated as a designer with art and literature magazines: L'Estampe moderne, l'Ermitage or la Plume in 1897-1898 then worked regularly for the humorous press: la Caricature, l'Assiette au verre, Le Chat Noir, Frou Frou. He also created numerous erotic posters under the name Jacques d'Icy. His works are present on the Art market, testifying to the still-present enthusiasm for this artist.
