"Second Restoration Louis XVIII Mission Souvenir Cross 1821 Gold Plated Golden Wood Frame"
RELIGIOUS ART-CHRISTIANITY-CULTUAL OBJECTS FRANCE 1821 CROSS/PENDANTS GOLD-PLATED METAL SECOND LOUIS XVIII RESTORATION The Second Restoration, from Louis XVIII to Charles X (1815-1830), was a constitutional monarchy defined by the Charter of 1814. After the French Revolution From 1789, the Church, in decline, commissioned the clergy, specially trained missionary priests, to re-evangelize the dioceses of France. These missions included various elements: ceremonies, glosses/sermons and confessions. The ends of these missions were ratified by the election of a cross, close to the Church. Cross pendants were also made for the faithful. Our high quality and very well made mission souvenir cross is made of gold/gold plated metal. Each segment ends with a royal crown; the finesse of Christ's features and the detail of the finishing indicate that it was intended for an important person in the community. Fixed on a gilded wooden frame and burgundy satin fabric background. Good condition (marks, weld undone at the feet of Christ; see descriptive photos). Cross dimensions: 10.6 x 6.6 cm
