Central Asia, beautiful rug with rare animal decoration, in fine hand-knotted wool, natural colors, from the mid-20th century, circa 1950-1960 in very good condition, showing very slight signs of wear.
These rugs are knotted and woven by nomadic tribes, in Iran, Afghanistan, Russia and Central Asia, in sheep's wool but also extensively with unbleached camel wool.
These carpets can be dark and dull, red, wine-colored, wine-colored, earthy, but also very light, camel-colored.
The decor is geometric, taking motifs from the decorations of the Caucasus but also from ancient Persia.
The most sought after are animal rugs and prayer rugs presenting a niche, the mihrab, rectangular specific to these tribes, (the niche, indicates the Quibla, the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca).
they are tied further north, in Khorasan, in Iran, on the Russo-Iranian border, they are also given, for the most beautiful models, the name of Mecched, capital of Khorassan.
These are nomadic rugs, so the sizes are quite small, the warps and wefts until recently were always in wool (before 1940), but the use of cotton has supplanted wool, the knot used remains the Persian knot .
The large number of patterns used shows the Persian influence, and the geometric characters link them to the family of Central Asian rugs. Interior decoration often reveals great geometric elaboration, in all the symbolism and symmetry.

The drawing is a bit simple, almost childish, even modern, it has a certain magic in the shapes and colors.
