Sculpture forming a vase or flower girl in polychrome enameled earthenware from Choisy-le-Roi, representing a beautiful crowing rooster, standing on an overturned basket, behind him a wall edge covered with ivy, signed Louis Carrier-Belleuse*, late period Nineteenth century. This rooster is in good condition and is of remarkable quality. Signed on the side, Choisy-le-Roi stamp below (+ numbered). Please note: some chips and chips, some small accidents and losses (notably on the tail feathers / see red arrows), some enamelling defects, slight wear over time, see photos. * Louis-Robert-Mary Carrier-Belleuse (1848-1913) is a French painter, sculptor and ceramist. He is the brother of the painter-pastellist Pierre Carrier-Belleuse and the son of the recognized sculptor Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, of whom he was a student. At the Paris School of Fine Arts, he took lessons from Gustave Boulanger and Alexandre Cabanel. He received a prize for a painting at the 1881 Salon and was awarded a prize for a sculpture at the 1889 Salon. Louis-Robert Carrier-Belleuse worked at the Manufacture de Sèvres with his father who had been its artistic director since 1875. In 1877, he trained in ceramics with Théodore Deck and took part in the Sèvres competition in 1882. He designed models for the Choisy-le-Roi Faïencerie of which he became the artistic director in 1889. A well-rated artist on ArtPrice.
