He often signed his works with the simple name "E. Coppenolle". He comes from a very old Flemish family and grew up in Belgium before his parents settled in Paris shortly before the war of 1870. Edmond Coppenolle studied fine arts at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and began his artistic career as a landscape painter. He quickly became famous for his mastery of light and color, as well as his elegant and harmonious floral arrangements. He participated in numerous exhibitions in Belgium and France, notably at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900, where he won a gold medal. He also exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and at the Royal Belgian Society of Watercolorists. Edmond Coppenolle's works are very varied, ranging from landscapes to portraits to floral still lifes.
