Robert Pikelny (or Piekielny) was born in Lodz (Poland) on February 9, 1904 and he died in the 18th arrondissement of Paris on July 23, 1986. He was a painter of the School of Paris. . Robert Pikelny began his artistic apprenticeship in Moscow where his parents came to settle in 1908. He discovered painting through the painters of the Tretiakoff gallery, an important gallery in Moscow which exhibited Ilia Repin, Vassili Ivanovitch Sourikoff and Valentin Alexandrovitch Seroff whose reproductions adorn his childhood bedroom.
