Pair of 17th century Italian walnut carved caryatids, an antique pair of Baroque hand-carved female figures with a beautiful dark patina. Good age related conditions, both carved panels show original iron hooks in the back, they were probably part of a paneled walls of an opulent antique building, or decorative carvings from an old piece of furniture, the pair of caryatids now are ready to hang on wall.

The caryatid is a female figure as a support architectural element, with a decorative function of architraves, balustrades, balconies, shelves. The caryatid was also widely used in the decoration of furniture, sometimes completely detached from its supporting functions, only for ornamental motifs purpose.
