Early 18th Century Painting Of Christ Supper At Emmaus flag

Object description :

"Early 18th Century Painting Of Christ Supper At Emmaus "
Beautiful oil painting on canvas applied on a tablet. This work represents a detail of Christ's face, inspired by the famous painting by Caravaggio "The Supper at Emmaus". The scene is based on the Gospel according to Luke, in which Christ performs the miracle of the Eucharist. The portrayed Christ is young, beardless and plump, with his red dress and white tunic that stand out against a dark background, while his brown curls stand out gracefully. The author of the painting is probably a Neapolitan artist belonging to the post-Caravaggio school, who reuses the traditional dark background technique, superimposing light colors, and active in the early 18th century. The work is framed in a carved wooden frame, gilded with pure gold leaf, not contemporary with the work but to be dated to the early 19th century. The painting is in good condition and highlights an extraordinary use of chiaroscuro and the Caravaggio painting technique.
