"Arthur Midy Lavandières Le Faouët Oil On Panel Circa 1900 Brittany Landscape"
Very beautiful work by the painter Arthur Midy (1877-1944) who discovered Le Faouët around 1905. This oil on panel presents the church of Faouët with a group of washerwomen in the foreground. A very beautiful morning light emerges from the work and we feel the atmosphere of the time. The treatment, both figurative and free from academic naturalism, supports the pictorial quality of the artist, assassinated in 1944 for his connections with German troops. Trained at the Académie Julian, Arthur Midy painted Brittany and in particular the village of Faouët from the 1900s. He participated in the Salon of French Artists from 1897 to 1928 and received a silver medal in 1914. Some of his works are kept at the Quimper Museum of Fine Arts as well as at the Faouët Museum. Panel dimensions: 25 x 20 cm. Frame dimensions: 38 x 33 cm.
