*****************************************

PITCHER with pewter shoulders, plinth base, straight cup and molded S-shaped thumb.
Control mark: Crowned C / PONTOISE / (1728).
Hallmark of Edme Nicolas Jacques MARCHAND received master in Paris in 1761: tub: star / crown / EJM / P.
Height: 23 cm.
PONTOISE, Last quarter of the 18th century

Rare provenance in very good condition
This 1728 vintage hallmark was not updated with each vintage as stipulated by the regulations of the royal edict of 1691 and this vintage was used in this center until the end of the 18th century. It does not allow, in the absence of a maker's mark, to precisely date the objects bearing it.
This master, received in Paris, settled in Pontoise in 1774 where he was still cited in 1781.
Parisian hallmark with which he continued to mark these productions for a time after his installation in Pontoise.
Remember that these pitchers were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime.

Bibliography: Michel SCHONN and Philippe BOUCAUD, “Les étains de Paris”
