"Goose Pendant In White Jade Stained With Rust. China 18th Century Or Earlier;"
White jade pendant, slightly stained with rust, representing a goose busy washing itself. The bird is depicted lying on a large lotus leaf, its head smoothing its dorsal feathers, gracefully curving its neck which stands out from the body and serves as a natural handle for passing the silk cord. The compact shape, the whiteness of the rust-tinged stone, the subject, the natural attachment and the quality of the sculpture as well as the details make it an excellently crafted jewel. Chinese lapidary work from the early Qing period, 18th century but possibly earlier. This jade pendant appeared in the important Christies sale in Hong Kong on December 1, 2010 under number 3238. I can present the catalog to the buyer. Length 54mm.
