Object description :

"Chelsea Porcelain Figurine Of Laundry Woman, C. 1752-1756"
This antique hand-painted hard porcelain figurine depicts a young woman wearing a pink bonnet and blue apron with gold ornaments, holding a basket of clean laundry in her right hand and a bouquet of flowers in the other. The figurine is richly enameled and decorated with gilding. It rests on a circular base decorated with rococo scrollwork. The company brand is on the bottom. As is often the case with porcelain figurines made by true artisans, the precision of the facial details, jewelry and clothing is remarkable. This figurine is a perfect decoration for a classic interior. The Chelsea Porcelain Factory was founded in London, England in 1743. It was one of the first porcelain factories in England and quickly gained a reputation for producing high quality, finely detailed porcelain. Founded by Nicholas Sprimont, a Belgian goldsmith, it was initially known for its bone china figurines and tableware. In the 1750s, the factory began producing hard porcelain, which was more durable and of higher quality than the soft porcelain it had previously produced. The manufactory's reputation was enhanced by its production of ornate and hand-painted porcelain figurines, many of which were inspired by popular 18th-century paintings. Chelsea porcelain was highly prized by the wealthy and was often given as gifts to members of the royal family. The factory underwent several changes of ownership during the 18th century, including a purchase by William Duesbury, who owned it from 1769 until 1784, when it closed due to financial difficulties and competition from other porcelain manufacturers. Dimensions of the object: Height: 23 cm Width: 11.5 cm Depth: 10 cm Weight: 529 grams State of conservation: Small, almost imperceptible chips of flower petals in the hands of the young girl, small losses of gilding and cracks slightly visible due to cooking. The figurine is in near perfect condition. It is very difficult to find old Chelsea figurines in such good condition. Please study the photographs accompanying the item carefully, as they form an integral part of this description. Item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance. It is important to note that shipping costs include labor, packaging and postage.
