Great Italian painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a rare sacred episode, the mystical marriage of Saint Dorothy. As she is dragged to martyrdom she repeatedly invokes the name of her husband Jesus. The pagans mock her and say that they will believe her only if Dorothy sends flowers and fruit from the afterlife directly from her husband's garden. In fact, in this rare composition Christ pays homage to Dorothy with a bouquet of flowers and three apples while on the sides we find a host of splendid characters, such as Moses and Saint John the Baptist. A painting of notable pictorial quality, in fact the technical ability in the creation of the drapes of the precious garments and of every single naturalistic detail should be emphasized, in particular the still life at the feet of the Saints. Painting of monumental dimensions, ideal for a large hall or private chapel. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting in some places. Overall in good condition.
