Madonna and child
Oil on canvas, cm 67 x 59
With Frame, cm 86 x 75
In the sweet maternal scene, the half-figure of the Virgin in a red tunic, blue cloak and an ochre veil turns to the right towards the sleeping Child, abandoned on his maternal shoulder. The little one is covered by a white cloth that covers its nudity, golden curls and red cheeks while it is lying on the maternal body immersed in a quiet sleep.
The use of the more saturated palette, with a strong predominance of red not only in the clothes but especially in the incarnate, refers to Emilian works while the construction of the opera is linked to the long tradition of Madonna with child made mainly for private devotion. The intense dialogue between the two refers to the sweet scenes of the painter Francesco Trevisani (1656-1746).
The multiple points of reading the work connect it to the hand of a painter center - Italian active between XVII and XVIII century.
