Madonna in adoration of the Child with San Giovannino
Terracotta, cm 62 x 46
The work under consideration, a valuable terracotta relief, depicts the Virgin, kneeling and with her hands joined in prayer, before her son Jesus. Like the Madonna, Saint John is in adoration of the Messiah.
The relief is offered as a re-proposition of a very successful model in fifteenth-century Tuscany. Iconographically, in fact, the work is similar to the glazed terracotta compositions of Luca (1400-1482) and Andrea (1435-1525) from Robbia, now preserved at the Museo del Bargello.
The fortune of this composition is not only in the sculptural field, but also in the pictorial one: see for example Gherardo di Giovanni said Gherardo del Fora, Madonna in adoration of the Child with San Giovannino at the Gallerie dell'Accademia, Florence and the similar composition by Jacopo del Sellaio at the Palazzo vecchio in Florence. Several repropositions of the same iconography appear by unknown painters of Tuscan area
The object is in good condition
