China, early 20th century, very pretty pair of Fo dogs in carved wood resting on a superb miniature console in dense and semi-precious wood reminiscent of the zitan so appreciated by emperors. Both sides of this console are decorated with a stylized lingzhi in the style of the tops of ruyi scepters. Each of Fo's dogs rests on a double inverted base, one paw on a sphere. In each of the mouths there is a small mobile sphere. The subjects are proud and adopt a haughty stance. They are sculpted with fine patterns giving them a beautiful realism. Total dimensions: Height 36 cm. Length 37.5 cm. Height of each Fo dog 22 cm. The scale indicator in the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a brand known to everyone.
Good condition except for slight wear and traces of previous fittings such as a notch on the tail of one of the two dogs and holes on the console allowing them to be fixed.
