"Art Nouveau Vase With Sèvres Thistles Paste On Paste"
Exceptional vase in new paste porcelain from Sèvres with light paste-on-paste decoration in relief of thistle branches and flowers. Our vase is a magnificent illustration of creative inventiveness in France around 1900. Its plant decoration is in perfect harmony with the artistic language of art nouveau, as is this organic fall which comes from the top of the vase. Note how these white splashes, like those of a waterfall, enliven the background color of our vase made of gradients of yellow and ocher! The aesthetic effect of this vase is so incredible that one could be mistaken and think that it is the work of one of the famous master glassmakers of the Nancy school. The shape of this vase called "du creusot" was imagined by Alexandre Sandier, head of art works in Sèvres since 1897. This shape, notable for its simplicity, was often associated with paste-on-paste decorations around 1900. Signed by Black Stamp S 1900 and Red Stamp decorated in Sèvres 1901 RF A similar copy would be in the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg
