"Andre Lagarrigue : “landscape Of The Lot In Autumn 1931”"
André Lagarrigue (1886-1980) “Landscape of the Lot in autumn”, oil on canvas 54 x 73 cm. Although he was qualified by the title “Lauraguais Impressionist” by his peers, this former student of Jean-Paul Laurens at the Beaux-Arts in Paris nevertheless led a career centered in Toulouse. Our painting, in its most beautiful post-impressionist vein, the large strokes revealing the canvas between them, shows us, overlooking the river, the castle of the village of La-Roque-des-Arcs in the Lot. The palette, whose green foliage begins to yellow, is highlighted by the orange of the tiled roofs under a yellow sky of the setting sun. The back is countersigned, titled and dated 1931, it bears a second date 1946 and a number 593 probably corresponding to an inventory, perhaps for an exhibition.
