Early 20th century oil on canvas antique painting. German School.
The work depicts a view of a cliff with crows and the Ocean in front painted in warm, bright colours.
The painting is dated 1911 and signed in the lower left corner ALF Bachmann, German painter of animated landscapes,
marine paintings and Orientalist. Alfred August Felix Bachmann (1863-1956) was born in Dirschau ( Dantzig),
studied at the School of Fine Arts in Königsberg in Old East Prussia. From 1891 he moved to Munich,
travelled extensively and painted mainly landscapes and seascapes with the subjects Iceland
Normandy, the coast of Portugal, Ténériffe, Venice, Istanbul and the Bosphore.
The work bears a beautiful original gilded frame, coeval with the work.
The antique frame and canvas have been professionally and carefully cleaned and restored.
