"Inkstone "
Rare jade inkstone (nephrite) dating from the 18th century, where a Tiger and a Dragon emerging from the clouds are represented in strong relief and with great vigor. The carving is careful to make the detail meaningful, without excess. The reliefs are energetically hollowed out, despite the hardness of the nephrite stone which was used to create this object of great luxury necessary for the Letterer's office. The slight depression where the ink stick was crushed and diluted to achieve the exact shade required from pale to dark gray. It is also through the use of this bucket that we can verify that this is indeed nephrite jade, the stone having been exposed by frequent washing.
