Altar cross and six candle sticks
Gilded copper alloy
Maison Poussielgue-Rusand
Paris, circa 1860-1880
-----
Height of a candle stick: 49 cm
Height of the cross: 57 cm
-----
Each candle stick is stamped POUSSIELGUE above the foot and in the bobèche, under the stick. The cross is stamped above the foot (the punches are invisible once the object is mounted).
The candle sticks are each made up of 10 elements assembled around a threaded rod (7 for the cross).
The decorative register of dragons, interlacings and foliage, borrowed from Roman art, derives from a model created by Placide Poussielgue-Rusand around 1860.
The model is still offered in the 1893 catalog of the Poussielgue-Rusand house (we find our cross, with small variations in the elevation, under number 550, p.140 and the bases decorated with dragons and interlacing on the candlesticks n°150, p.102).
-----
Very good general condition. More marked wear to the gilding on the cross. Small accidents at the tips of the spades.
