Charles Counhaye (Verviers, 1884 -Brussels, 1971) is a Belgian painter, engraver and decorator. Charles Counhaye received his artistic training at the Verviers academy, then at that of Brussels with Constant Montald.
He settled for eight months in Paris where he was influenced by Fauvism and Cubism.
From 1926 to 1949, he was a professor at the La Cambre Institute of Decorative Arts in Brussels, where he influenced some followers of monumental painting with a social tendency.
He held several exhibitions in the company of Wolvens, J. Gooris, Pierre Scoupreman and Joseph-Gérard Van Goolen, under the name of the "Groupe des V", notably in 1935 at the Georges Giroux gallery.
In addition to painting, he is also interested in decorative arts, notably tapestry, frescoes and stained glass art.
