Bronze medal, 18th century, 1712
This medal, in octogonal shape with perpendicular loop, shows on its obverse Saint Felix of Cantalice on the left side holding a staff and a bag, and on the right side Saint Catherine of Bologna wearing nun habits and holding a cross. Both figures look up to the Holy Spirit appearing as a dove in a radiating halo. On the edge: "S·FEL·D·CAN·" et "S·CAT·D·BO·"
On the reverse, Saint Pius V wearing pope habits on the left side, and on the right side Saint Andrew Avellino wearing priest habits, are both standing hands clasped in prayer raising their eyes to the Holy Spirit depicted in the same way as on the obverse. On the edge: "S·PIVS·V" et "S·AND·A"
These four saints were all canonised by Clement XI in 1712, it is safe to estimate that this medal has been struck that year to commemorate these proclamations, in Rome, as indicated on the bottom of both faces.
Very good condition, a few tiny spots of oxidization, brown patina.
