Pewter shoulder pitcher, quarter-round foot and cup and two-bud thumbscrew.
Hallmark of Philippe Benjamin DORET: crowned lion / BENJAMIN DORET.
Height: 26.5 cm.
VEVEY (Switzerland), Extreme end of the 18th century

Superb quality and condition.
The inside of the cup is equipped with a gauging cone indicating the "correct measurement", visible in one of the photos.
In the 18th century and before, these pitchers were wine measures used in public places; their good capacity had to be checked periodically by gauges-controllers appointed by the political or ecclesiastical power.
