Subtle are the colors with this blue, white and red on an olive green background - 19th century period circa 1890 Edmond Lachenal (1855-1948) designer, painter and sculptor, Edmond Lachenal was above all a remarkable ceramist. He worked for ten years at Théodore Deck, where he quickly became workshop manager, before setting up on his own in the Paris suburbs from 1880. He first produced earthenware in the style of Iznik, then, from From 1890, he devoted himself to stoneware, then to flamed stoneware, always retaining a taste for Japanese shapes and decorations. Shortly after 1900, Lachenal abandoned ceramics and turned to dramatic art, entrusting his workshop to his wife and son Raoul in 1904. He plays comedy with Sarah Bernhardt, with whom rumor has it that he had an affair. Remarried in 1913, he devoted himself to easel painting and pastels. (source Musée d’Orsay). His perfect technical mastery allowed him to approach all ceramic varieties; its settings and subjects, always in a naturalistic spirit, are innumerable. We owe him in particular a very fine enamel, with an extremely silky appearance and texture, due to the use of hydrochloric acid.
